What kind of media institution might distruibute your media product and why?

In thinking of a distributer for my music magazine, I decided on Bauer Media. I originally thought of using IPC media, but then decided against it for a number of reasons:

Firstly, IPC already has a more mature music and lifestyle magazine, in the form of Uncut, so another magazine along these lines would make no sense: Thus, they would probably decline for fear of competing with themselves. On the other hand, Bauer have only either music magazines or lifestyle magazines, but no magazine that combines both. Therefore, it would make more sense to distribute through them.
Secondly, Bauer are a much larger company than IPC, at 25% to IPC's 20%, so therefore they have a better stake on shops for distribution and possibly a larger budget to spend on such a magazine than IPC have.
Thirdly, Bauer don't have (at the time of typing) a magazine that aims at my target audience: men between 25-40 years old (see my demographic profile for more information). Therefore, a magazine such as mine would fill this niche gap perfectly.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My media product represents my target audience

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

1. The title of the magazine:
For the title of my magazine, I have decided to stick to the conventions of a rock magazine. For inspiration, I have used the similar magazine Uncut. You can see how there is inspiration taken from Uncut, in the fact that both names sound, ironically, raw and visceral, conventions of a rock magazine.

2. Mise-en-scene of images:
There is very little in the form of Mise-en-scene in my

3. Costumes and props:
In the category of costumes and props, I have partly stuck to the conventions of a rockstar. i have accomplished this by having my 'star' to wear smart clothes that were dark, a convention of rockstars. However, in the props department, it is very unconventional, as I have never seen in a rock magazine before a mini piano be used as a prop, which makes slightly unconventional, especially as my 'star' is supposed to be a guitarist.

4. People:
In the area of people, I decided to try and deviate from the social norm by getting someone who didn't look like a rock star, but more like a casual down-to-earth kind of person. I decided to do this to challenge

5. Title font and style:

My final music magazine products

Question 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

In the process of making my music magazine products, I used computer editing programs and cameras to create and capture elements of my final product.

I used a digital camera in order to take my photos. I used this because this way, I could put a filter onto them and give the photos a more classic approach to them, which would go along with the traditional feel of my music magazine. Another reason is that it produces high quality photos with little hassle.

For the creation of the magazine products, I used Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended. This is because it is a very user-friendly editing software yet can still produce very high quality products.

Question 4: who would be the audience for your magazine?

My magazine is designed to appeal to men who aspire to be like entrepeneur Peter Jones. As such, they probably work in accounting, wear suits a lot, like their cars, are possibly married/have a girlfriend, yet still have an interest in music (See my demographic Profile for more information on my target audience). in this regard, the title of my magazine, roar, is significant in that it fits the theme of the type of music that these men like: rock.

In order to make the magazine fit my target audience, I will give it a more "old-school" feel, accomplished through pictures with a black and white filter, and a minimalist design, with only a handful of text designs and colours. This will not only attract my target audience's attention, but also give it a dinstinctive style that will make it unique amongst music magazines these days.
